Flunency Finder App- Perfect Reading Assessment for K-8 Educators

I would like to share with you the exciting new app of Fluency Finder we utilized during an iPad Apptivity workshop in Wisconsin yesterday with K-8th grade teachers and Reading Specialist and Title I teachers.  It’s a reading fluency app that will work on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, and the cost is $6.99. The grade level assessment associated with this app is focused on grades 1-5, but can easily utilized for children in kindergarten who are more fluent with reading or students through their middle school years who are struggling with reading.   This particular app allows you to assess the reading fluency of each child in your classroom and store the data assessments, so you can refer back to them for future comparisons of analyzing fluency growths or setbacks. The Fluency finder app stores all the information locally on your mobile device and the reading passages.
This app allows for educators to be productive with their time and efficient with administrating the reading fluency…

Lazy Days of Summer Are No More

I have had many interesting conversations since the wrap up of the school year, and some individuals think or believe since school is out of session that my workload has or will lighten for me professionally and for k-12 educators in general. I always laugh at these statements and share with these individuals that my summers are my busiest times for working with educators and administrators around the nation. And....some k-12 educators and administrators are working their hardest to make greater gains with professional technology literacy skill sets, learning new facilitation strategies incorporating blending learning best practices, and trying to stay on top of the demands coming at them from the state and federal government demands of the Common Core, PBIS, RtI, and the new Teacher evaluation process of the Danielson model- especially in the state of Wisconsin.

The summer is my highest demand with working with k-12 schools to ignite and jump-start their new strategic plans and visio…

Pondering Thoughts of an Infographics Workshop

I have been exploring with the idea of creating an infographics workshops to assist educators and administrators with designing data sets to visually represent the content or the main point they are trying to portray when they are instructing students. As we know, the lecture style and pencil and paper classroom are quite boring- so we need to jazz up the instructional approach to meet the needs of today's diverse learners. But we also need to present information in a way that can be absorbed in smaller chuncks, so the endusers has a more personalized and manageable experience with the data or findings that are being presented.

I have been searching through a multitude of inforgraphics design programs and resources and have found many that are very intuitive and teacher friendly to utilize. If the technology resource or tool is not straight forward and simple to navigate and design through- up to 65% of educators will not find value in it or use it to support instruction- this is w…

National PD Lessons Learned

It has been a very busy these past three months and my blog updates have fallen a tad short and somewhat to the wayside as the PD development and national training I provide has taken precedence.  I have kept up with my social networks as of Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook- but am feeling extremely guilty on my professional reflection.  I need to put myself first this time- as I have a little downtime between flights as I head back home after the Chicago Tech Forum and working with national edtech leaders with Intel Education in Naperville, IL this past week.

I had the wonderful privilege and opportunity to co-present with the most lovely Lucy Gray AKA on Twitter @elemenous on “Yes, There is An App For That” at the 2012 ChicagoTech Forum on May 4th. I really enjoyed working and co-presenting with Lucy as she allows me to be highly creative in my presentation contributions, she positively pushes me to a new level of technology learning and demonstration practices, and she constantly mode…

2012 UK Google Teacher Academy

I was introduced to a new video challenge last month and full heartily accepted the challenge and entered the 2012 Google Teacher Academy in the UK. This event will take place in London, England UK on April 4, 2012. The task at hand was to complete the online application and produce and submit an original one minute video on EITHER of the following topics: "Motivation and Learning" OR "Classroom Innovation." and to be as creative as you like. Love the open endlessness of this challenge!
This video is a very important part of the application. The task is designed to demonstrate your technical ability, your resourcefulness, your commitment, and your unique personality and interests. I chose a creative element of using the video creation tool of One True Media, an edgy urban sound track and a multimedia look and feel of London, England. My message was posed to infuse the message of "Classroom Innovation." I personally feel very good about the final producti…
