Innovative Educator Technology Academy Day 1

Greetings Ed Tech Campers,

Our Day 1 of activities will begin by tomorrow at the Onalaska Middle School in Onalaska, WI. The Innovative Educator technology training team is pumped to share their expertise with their technology attendees, but also look forward to the networked collaboration and share session they will participate in as well. Day 1 activities will encompass a warm and friendly welcome from the new Onalaska superintendent, Dr. Fran Finco followed by an inspirational keynote from Shelly Terrell about the power of social networks.

Shelly Sanchez Terrell is an education activist, thought-provoker, and international speaker. She is also the VP of Educator Outreach for Parentella and Social Media Community Manager for The Consultants-E. She is also the co-organizer and co-creator of the acclaimed educational projects, Edchat, The Reform Symposium E-Conference and the Virtual Round Table conference. The New York Times learning blog has included her on its list of the top 78 educators to follow on Twitter and recently she has been listed as one of the Top 20 most influential tweeters in eLearning, training and HR. Visit her education blog, Teacher Reboot Camp, for resources for effective technology integration. In 2012 find her book, The 30 Goals Challenge for Educators published by Eye on Education. Participate with over 6000 educators worldwide in the online completion of inspiring goals. Find her on Twitter, @ShellTerrell.

Educators will make their way to their educational hands-on/minds-on sessions after the keynote and will participate in the following:
*21st Skills for the 21st Century Educator
*Technology Administrative Leadership Camp
*Transforming Classroom Practice with Social Networking and Web 2.0
*Kick It Up A Notch: Season Your SMART Notebook Lessons with Technology Integration
*Promoting Research, Information and Media Fluency with eReaders.

We will have continuous virtual chats through the twitter hashtag of #InnovateEdu11, Skype expertise sessions piping into our academy all week long, and utilizing Todays Meet as a way to connect our educators through a consistent virtual portal between class sessions. Lunch time will bring about several fun energizer activities of "Name That Tune" and "Web 2.0 Smackdowns" and "QR Codes Scavengers Hunts" throughout the week.

Check back to take a sneak a peek at our progress of our technology academy adventures!

Reenergize and Refocus This Summer- Change Your Mindset!

It has been a whirlwind of a month already and it is only June 3rd. It has been an amazing week working with my Intel family in Phoenix, AZ. The experience to design, create and contribute to the greater good of the future of education has filled my edtech bucket. I am so very thankful and grateful to Vanessa Jones, Theresa Maves, Anne Batey, the entire Big Monocol team and Lars Lindstrom's video crew as a collaborative team we worked on an incredible upcoming video segment to support a game-infused learning series of online coursework. Cannot share any more at this time- but this content will be a game-changer of how we deliver ongoing professional development in the education world.
Working with inspired educators and incredible talented videographers has truly grounded me again this week, knowing that there are individuals in the edtech industry that constantly give 200%, never complain and contribute to a finalized product that will impact so many in so many countries worldwi…

SchoolNet South Africa Conference Reflections

Well....I am back, back after being gone for a week of travel and presenting in Bloemfontein, South Africa to present at the national SchoolNet SA Conference. I was thrilled to be asked back for the third time by good friends Gerald Roos and Janet Thomson from School Net.

It is always an adventurous journey to travel to South Africa, as there is no direct flight of how to get there- but the longest part of the journey is the flight from Atlanta, Georgio to Johannesburg, South Africa of 17 hours. The total air travel and airport exchanges take about 24-30 hours one way.  So.... yes I am one tired girl today, but I have a few days to catch up on my sleep and acclimate back to the 7 hour time change.

Upon my arrival to the Bloemfontein, South Africa I was greeted by the most lovely Janet Thomson, Executive Director of SchoolNet, who assisted me with my transportation to the hotel we would be staying at, and to also preview the venue of the conference location. This year's conference wa…
