Distance Learning Session with Web 2.0 Tools

Today I will be working with a dynamic group of educators over the distance learning network to showcase a collection of Web 2.0 tools. Specific tools we will be addressing during this hour long session include Blogger, Google Notebook, Google Reader, Google Sites, and Slideshare. These are the tools of choice this particular group of educators will be focusing on from the East Coast of Wisconsin. Within this post I have embedded key video links and quick start tutorials to showcase how these tools work and how you can use these for instructional purposes with educators and students.

I am also going to include a few alternative tools since their has been some hype of Google discontinue the development of Google Notebook. Mashables is an excellent website which provides updates and discussion threads of what is going in the Web 2.0 world relating to tools and resources for the classroom and business world. It also provides and extensive listing of free and open source solutions to alternative high cost programs.

Lastly- my all-time favorite Web 2.0 sites with over 1,000's of literacy tools to support instruction in the k-16 classroom.Go2Web20, Web Tools 4U2Use, and Cool Tools For Schools.

Have Fun!

SchoolNet South Africa Conference Reflections

Well....I am back, back after being gone for a week of travel and presenting in Bloemfontein, South Africa to present at the national SchoolNet SA Conference. I was thrilled to be asked back for the third time by good friends Gerald Roos and Janet Thomson from School Net.

It is always an adventurous journey to travel to South Africa, as there is no direct flight of how to get there- but the longest part of the journey is the flight from Atlanta, Georgio to Johannesburg, South Africa of 17 hours. The total air travel and airport exchanges take about 24-30 hours one way.  So.... yes I am one tired girl today, but I have a few days to catch up on my sleep and acclimate back to the 7 hour time change.

Upon my arrival to the Bloemfontein, South Africa I was greeted by the most lovely Janet Thomson, Executive Director of SchoolNet, who assisted me with my transportation to the hotel we would be staying at, and to also preview the venue of the conference location. This year's conference wa…

Reenergize and Refocus This Summer- Change Your Mindset!

It has been a whirlwind of a month already and it is only June 3rd. It has been an amazing week working with my Intel family in Phoenix, AZ. The experience to design, create and contribute to the greater good of the future of education has filled my edtech bucket. I am so very thankful and grateful to Vanessa Jones, Theresa Maves, Anne Batey, the entire Big Monocol team and Lars Lindstrom's video crew as a collaborative team we worked on an incredible upcoming video segment to support a game-infused learning series of online coursework. Cannot share any more at this time- but this content will be a game-changer of how we deliver ongoing professional development in the education world.
Working with inspired educators and incredible talented videographers has truly grounded me again this week, knowing that there are individuals in the edtech industry that constantly give 200%, never complain and contribute to a finalized product that will impact so many in so many countries worldwi…

Another Chapter In Our LIves- And I Am Questioning Why?

Greetings Edtech Leaders,

I am blogging tonight as I am traveling to Saskatoon, Canada and I have a story to tell, and hope you can bare with me. I have a scheduled technology keynote on Friday, Aprill 11th and a full day planned of hands-on workshops with some of the most inspirational teacher leaders, administrators and library media specialists in all of Canada. This journey has been in the works for over 18 months, to plan and prepare for this engaging technology event. But at the same time my family journey has taken a different route and the recent occurances have not been planned so well, and to prepare us for the next chapter in our lives.

We received a call on Saturday evening that our 18 year old son who is in the US Army was in a severe motorcycle accident. This was the most heart-wrenching call a mother and father could receive- and at the same time we received this from our new daughter-in-law, Heather, of only 10 months. She was overwhelmed by what was about to take place…
